Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni” in Bolshoi Theater, led by Greek conductor Teodor Kourentzis and prize-winning director Dmitry Tcherniakov.

The Bolshoi Opera hosts the Russian production of a new, modern version of the 18th century Mozart classic “Don Giovanni”, a production which garnered mixed reviews when performed first at the Festival International D’art Lyrique d’ Aix-en-Provence in July.
The contemporary staging of the classic opera by Wolfgang Mozart is a joint production of the Bolshoi, the French festival, Teatro Real of Madrid and the Canadian Opera Company.
The production, which has faced criticism for tinkering with a familiar, much-loved opera, is a departure for the Bolshoi Opera orchestra as well, as it usually performs a 19th century repertoire.
Teodor Currentzis, who conducts the musicians through the score, said he was impressed with the orchestra’s grasp of the challenging Baroque period music.
