On the 12th of January 2017 the first time since 2008 fashion designer Gosha Rubchinskiy presented his fall/winter 2017 runway show in Russia. He chose the small city of Kaliningrad, on the Baltic sea. The city was formerly named Königsberg, and was part of German territories until 1945.
It’s the only city in the Russian Federation that has ice-free access to the Baltic sea all year round, and today it’s home to army, air force and naval bases. Kaliningrad will be among the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2018.
The show was held in the former Königsberg Stock Exchange, built on the banks of the Pregolya river in 1875. During  Soviet Times it was converted into the Mariner’s Hall of Culture; it is now the Regional Centre of Youth Culture.
Comme des Garçons — which produces and distributes the Gosha Rubchinskiy label — invited around 100 people to attend the brand’s Kaliningrad show. A third of the show’s guests came from overseas; the rest were Russian press, buyers and fans. The Kaliningrad show is the first of a series of shows and events linked to the Rubchinskiy Adidas collaboration.
